LEVIN, HARRY
LEVIN, HARRY (1912–1993), U.S. literary critic and editor. Levin taught at Harvard from 1944. The author of James Joyce: A Critical Introduction (1941), he is especially known for his writings on American and European literature. His The Power of Blackness (1958) is a study of the problems of innocence and evil in the works of Hawthorne, Poe, and Melville. His works include Symbolism and Fiction (1956) and The Gates of Horn: A Study of Five French Realists (1963).
